A friend of mine is beginning a journey. With any luck, this particular journey will be the first step towards the completion of a lifelong dream. No one I know deserves to have their dreams realized more, but then, no notion of measurement is less correlated to an outcome’s likelihood than whether or not someone deserves it. We invent words like ‘deserve’ in the hopes that we can make life obey our commands, come around to our way of thinking how things should be, as if the world responded to our wishing it were so. But wishes are meaningless without the will to act. We all dream, and wish, some even deserve, but few possess the will to forge thoughts cast in desire into actions carved in stone. So, though my hopes are to see a friend’s dream fulfilled, my admiration lies in the attempt to steal from ephemera to give to reality.
Safe travels my friend, may your hands move the world.
